How should I explain dismissal and disability at a job interview?

Last week I was dismissed from my job for ‘some other substantial reason’. I’ve started early conciliation with ACAS and the employment solicitor at my Union believes I have a good chance of success (unfair dismissal and disability discrimination).

I’ve got a job interview next week but I’m not sure what to say about getting dismissed. At the time I filled out the application I hadn’t been dismissed so I didn’t put a leaving date or reason for leaving.

I’m also wondering if I should mention my disability, as that is essentially the reason I was dismissed. It’s left me anxious about saying anything in future.

Any advice?

I wouldn't offer them any information/update about it just now. You can sort all that out if offered the job. Hopefully you will get a reference and a few weeks either way won't make a difference in the long run. I was dismissed from a job after two weeks once, it does not appear on my CV at all.

They're unlikely to ask a question that forces you to tell them if the cv in front of them says you're still working there. Don't offer the information.

I wouldn't commit to anything at this point. None of the new employers business.

I hate the way one crap employers gets to shit on the futures of employers they've treated badly

You don't have to declare your disability and I would not say anything about being dismissed since you might take your former employer to an employment tribunal.

Many employers only give as references date of employment and job title anyway.

I would tell at interview that you are ''looking for a new challenge'' if they ask why you want a new job.

Yeah I’d just say you felt this job would suit you better. They’re more likely to ask ‘Why do you want this job?’ than ‘Why are you leaving your current position?’.
