How should I handle poor input on a legally binding work document?

So I was made redundant over a year ago. Luckily I got a new job but I knew it may be a stretch as the experience I have has been what has come in the door (consulting) and while I have a lot of years experience, my work area is complex and far reaching. I was given a piece of work to do working with a very inexperienced company. In this piece of work I’ve helped them as much as I can. A piece of the work should have been completed by another vendor but their priorities have been reassigned and I’ve been told to complete the work making the wording as palatable as possible. I’ve asked this company many times for input as they know their product best but I am getting nothing. So this deliverable is a piece of shit! I am feeling so bad about it and my new company is very American and if it goes tits up I know I’d be out the door. I’ve wanted the company of the consequences as they will have a document which is legally binding to carry through but no, it’s come winging back to me without any input. My colleague QCed and said it’s not great. So I don’t know what to do with it. It’s supposed to go to their senior leadership today for sign off!

I escalated them to someone senior (we’re a small team and they are in the US and are not familiar with the work we do in the UK) and then I was criticised for lack of communication skills after I escalated them. My boss is a mate of theirs. My colleague in the other company now has resigned and she hasn’t been acting effectively as a conduit between our two companies. We’ve gone through several drafts and they haven’t inputted on anything and it keeps winging back to me. They don’t reply to my requests.

Sounds frustrating. I think you will have to find another way to persuade the experts to contribute to your work! I often find an email doesn't land especially when the recipient is busy and likely has other priorities. Could you meet them and walk them through what you need and do it with them?
