Work upward bullying advice

Bahhumbug67 · 25/06/2026 15:48

Been upwardly bullied at work. My boss acknowledges that and has admitted it in writing.

I'm off with work stress because of the bullying and a lack of support from the company.

I've heard that my boss is telling people who work for me the latest status around my well-being and a latest status agreed with HR.

GDPR breach?
Thoughts on what I do next please?

I don't want the people who work for me and especially those bullying me knowing my latest position.

Really shouldn’t be sharing your private information. Are you in a union?
Sorry you are going through this and not being well supported.
Have HR or OH been involved or is it early stages?

Bahhumbug67 · 25/06/2026 22:15

In the leadership population so not in a Union

Leaders can be in unions or professional bodies. Maybe it depends on your sector?
Can you get advice from ACAS or citizens advice?

AgnesMcDoo · 25/06/2026 22:26

I’d start with some free advice from ACAS and if they think it’s worthwhile consider paying an employment solicitor.

Thank you

I don’t think it’s necessary to go in all guns blazing. Maybe just an email to your boss cc-ing HR saying you are aware of this information being shared, not comfortable with it and would expect discretion. Then it’s also written down in case things escalate

This is on the rise, upward bullying. Seen it happen to my ex ex manager.
Keep your chin up and don’t give up.

The tragic reality is that bullies often win. HR are scared of them and senior mngt work on a don't bring me problems basis
