What jobs are you/your employer struggling to recruit to?

Just that really. There's a million comments saying getting jobs is difficult at the moment, but there must be some shortages somewhere, or at least where there are fewer good candidates. I am looking in the north, but any region of the UK welcome.

Yes I often wonder when people say it takes 9 months to get a new job.
South East and 3 job offers since start of the year. Admittedly 2 were in nhs.

A huge part of the issue these days is that many employers don't want to invest in their staff and train them. If they were willing to train people properly and up skill their current staff they may be able to solve their recruitment issues.

I’d like to know the answer to this, my DH has been unemployed for over 18 months, highly qualified amazing CV and only got 2 interviews in that time from 100s of applications. Both jobs he’s not heard back from. Most of the interviews was talk of him being over qualified and worried he would leave as soon as something better came along.

Hes looking at retraining but at 50yo what to?

We are struggling to recruit support workers for vulnerable young people including those at risk of homelessness. Unfortunately the salary isn't great and they need their own car which os proving a barrier. Also we need welsh speaking preferably but learners accepted.
Can't fill it.

My last employer struggled getting forklift drivers. My uncle’s employer was struggling with this too as they just trained him up. He was really proud when he got his licence.

Bookmarking! Well over 50 with primary school children and trying to find something else that is flexible as likely need a new job soon and newly single parent. Brain gone to mush!

Decent Lead Technical Consultants (Data and Systems Integration), CVs have all the right words. When interviewing, the reality is very different. Candidates are thinking having done either a single implementation or “have an interest in” equates to years of hands on experience.

Community Care Worker. We have so many patients stuck in hospital because they aren’t safe to return home without a package of care - but the care providers can’t recruit enough staff to cover new clients.

GP Receptionists. The surgery I’m based at has 3 vacancies & continuously struggles to get suitable applicants to even interview. It appears everyone thinks they know how to do the job but nobody actually wants to do it.

I have been looking for a support worker for my little boy with complex health needs for over two years. People apply, get offered an interview and don't bother to show up. Or we get responses from people who need sponsorship which I am not in a position to support. I always give a wry laugh when I see people on her say "ask for respite" because supporter workers for complex children are rarer than hens teeth.

What jobs are you/your employer struggling to recruit to?
None within my immediate division!

Recently advertised. Must have a certain qualification/degree and ideally masters. I'm not sure of the original applicant numbers, but once whittled down, we still had 100 CV's to then go through. No idea if this is the norm or not for a fairly niche role?

My mobile hairdresser always seems hugely booked up!

themesses · 25/06/2026 18:47

Qualified early years practitioners. Nobody wants to do it anymore and after 20 years qualified myself, I can’t say I blame them!

SparklyDeer · 25/06/2026 20:33

Bid managers to tender for major UK infrastructure projects. It'sbasically project management but where you have to be excellent at delivery on time and to high quality. Can be stressful but highly rewarding. Lots of folk don't even know these jobs exist hence people don't even search for them when job hunting...

SquashPenguin · 25/06/2026 20:38

Asbestos surveyors and analysts, both trainee and experienced. Lots of people have no clue the jobs exist, what they are or anything about quite an important industry.

Decent data analysts, statisticians, economists. Plenty of people who think they can, when they really can't.
