Interview tomorrow for Teach Assistant / ICT - What to expect

Hi, I have an interview tomorrow for an ICT Support Teaching Assistant. Can anybody help me out on the sort of questions they are likely to ask? BTW this sounds like my ideal job, it is moving me towards my long term aim of teaching.

I have masses of computer experience (probably too much), but I think it is what got me the interview. Very little TA experience but I have helped out in the DC's quite often, including two straight weeks in order to get some experience.

My interview will consist of leading an activity with a group of year 2 SN children an ICT task and some questions.

I have got the activity sorted - I think! Roll 3 dice add the numbers shown (answer will be anything from 9 to 30 - homemade dice) cover the number it adds up to on the grid, aim is to try and be the first to get three counters in a row. For the less able there is a number square and a number line, for the more able try and get 4 in a row or use the inverse to check their adding up is correct.

But does anybody have any idea what the ICT task will be or more importantly what sort of questions they are likely to ask.

This is for a H3 grade job 15 hours a week Mon, Tues, Wed. Does anyone know what that means in actual pay?

Thanks for reading this very long post

Bump for the evening crowd

P.S. I haven't had a job interview for 15 years, I worked for my last company for a very long time

They might ask about resources I suppose.
Have you had a look on the standards site at the ICT scheme of work? You might be able to refer to some of the units to link your activities to.

Cornsilk - thanks, but what is the standards site?

It's set up by the DFES and has lots of info including schemes of work. Google standards site schemes of work
Also you could recommend websites - there have been some fab recommendations on here.

Thanks. I will have a look through that.

Will the activity of adding up the 3 dice be OK for all the SEN pupils, even with a number line? Adding 3 numbers may be a bit complex for some

cornsilk · 24/06/2008 17:49

Actually I wondered about that as well.

Whizzz · 24/06/2008 17:50

Will you know in advance what the SN issues are?

theITgirl · 24/06/2008 18:06

No, I don't know.
The letter said an activity or game for adding up to 30, so I basing the game on that.
I did ask if there was anything I should take into account regarding the special needs. I was told they were 'average sn' if that makes sense and no autism.

If they found adding three numbers difficult I was going to let them add two numbers and then add the third. (I used this method helping DS also year 2 add up his darts scores. I was also going to let them use pencil & paper if necessary

I am basing my activity on having children like 'X' who is in DS's class and is borderline SN - well he is now getting 1-2 hours a day 1-2-1, 'X' can be disruptive but is actually quite good at reading, but his numeracy & writing needs some more help. But I do think that 'X' could cope with this. Even 'Y' could cope with a bit of help e.g. what is 4 & 11, OK now what is 15 & 7
