how would go about becoming a freelance cleaner?

i really really need a job, but one with flexible hours.

i was considering either ironing service..but then as dp pointed out i dont drive and most people would want thier ironing picked up and dropped off.

my other idea was advertising services as a cleaner. but how would you do this? is it as easy as just putting an ad in local paper or do you need insurance, business name etc? do you need to supply the cleaning tools/products or do the people you clean for have them? how much is the average charge p/h? and could i do it with dd2 in tow or would that look too unprofessional? (i was thinking could do it while dd1 is at nursery)

hi micci - can only answer some of your queries.

Re our cleaner - she charges £10 p/h but does clean and iron - and does a flawless job. She also tends to work straight through so I'm not paying for breaks, sick pay etc. This is in Sw london so not sure where yoyu are,

Re children - its prob a matter for discussion- my cleaner currently off on mat leave but I'm ok about her bringing kids in providing they are supervised (how practical is that goign to be if you are busy

you don't need a business name but might be quite snappy - local newsagent or failing that paper (I also used local thomson to find people).

It varies re cleaning products - I tend to buy in what cleaner ask for and she uses our stuff. However when I've used agency or temp cleaners then they bring their own.. but obviously you need to be sure that have a good range suitable for various baths etc.]

re insurance -good question.. I think we're covered on household for stuff but not sure about what you could need. The other thing that people may want is references - esp if you're goign to clean when they are not there, have keys etc.

ah yes i had never considered refernces. perhaps it might easier if i keep looking for agency jobs that would suit my hours then! or ask mil if she knows anyone who might need any help.

im in ne so i dont think it would be £10 ph here, perhaps £6 maybe? i would be willing to iron and wouldnt have breaks anyhow while someone was paying me as i think its quite rude and lazy!

dd2 is only one and is happy enough playing her buggy and watching me so supervsing her wouldnt be a problem, but could be as she gets older.
