Should I take a permanent promotion if my current role suits me?

I've been offered a job on promotion (another department) and I'm getting cold feet. I'm on a temporary promotion and this other job would be a permanent one. I'm concerned that I'm given a lot of space for development/ working in my areas of interest in my current role and while the other one is better on paper, it might not actually hold the same interest to me

I feel really silly as ive told a few people about the offer and they are all saying to go. Any thoughts? I'm worried I'm going to make a mistake I regret.

Trust your instinct? I wonder if sometimes mistakes are made when we ignore our gut instinct.

Is there a possibility that your temporary promotion might become permanent at some point, and would this be your ideal scenario?

My gut instinct is that I was disappointed. My husband said I looked disappointed when he gave my congratulations on the new job card (he pointed this out tonight, not at the time).

I'm also worried how to break it to my line manager who is very keen I take the opportunity

Is this the line manager in your current temp role?

If so I would think about whether their encouragement is because they know there isn’t a permanent job coming up any time soon on your current job.

The job market is brutal right now, if you’re thinking you might want to progress in this direction at any point in the future I’d take it while it’s offered. I turned down a management role as I wasn’t sure I wanted to work those hours and I really wish I hadn’t because several years later I’m ready but I’ve never been offered that opportunity again.
