I've got an interview - Help!

Hi everyone,

I have an interview later this week after being out of work for a few years (family commitments, health etc) and i'm a nervous wreck! I used to sail through interviews but as I've gotten older, I'm more anxious and nervous. I think to a certain degree the stakes are higher.

I've started trying to write some notes using the STAR technique, so I can hopefully remember to have something to say if my mind goes blank 😣

Has anyone got any other tips they could give me about prepping for an interview? Anything really, from answers to give to how to combat nerves to even what to wear, anything would be much appreciated x

Can you give us the job title/ sector. Just be yourself. Get there early research company. Prepare some answers to standard questions why you want job, your experience etc. STAR method is good (not a fan of AI but chatgpt can help suggest interview questions based on the job.) Remember you’ve got an interview so they’ve seen something in your application. In terms of what to wear something comfortable smart casual so you look like you made an effort, unless is real professional role in which dress for the interview as though you have the job already.

Check out the Interview Boss Podcast. Really
good last minute prep and tips from two sisters.

Always ask questions at the end of the interview!

Is it face to face or online? I had a teams interview two weeks ago and start my new role in July. Had post its with my company research, current role, star scenarios, questions stuck on the stack of books my phone was perched on so the interviewer wasn’t staring up my nostrils.

It's face to face and its for an Office administrator. I know on paper I could do it with my eyes closed but being out of the market for a while, my confidence have slumped.

Chatgbt - pop the job description in and ask for questions based on it, and then feedback on your answers. And then dictate, not type in your reply, so as you would actually answer. Was brilliant practice for me

That sounds great! I'll have a go with that tomorrow 😊

Second the chat gpt. Was great preparation for a recent interview. In my case I typed my answer which also helped but I like the idea of dictating

Remember an interview is a negotiation.
think of it as a conversation-you show them how you’re great for the job but also they need to show why the job would be great for you too.
Confidence- fake it till you make it. Remember not to rush through your answers and it’s ok to take time to think

Look up their values, mission statement etc on their website. Put those into ChatGbt too, plus your CV and any specific work experiences you want to explain and chatgbt marries them all up

Hi there. Perhaps we could help each other. I just launched a website for people to track their interviews, jobs they apply for and things like that, and it also uses AI to give you a match score for any jobs you apply for and custom generated cover letters. I've done all the usual stuff; circulated the link to friends and family, and paid for ads in a few places but so far nobody has even signed up for an account (tt's free).

As you're looking for a job, if you'd like to give it a try, I would definitely appreciate any feedback you can give me; your impressions, how easy. you find it to use and stuff like that. You can use it free seven days and then you're supposed to pay £10 a month, but I'll uh, alter your account, so. you get an indefinite free trial period. The feedback would definitely help me.

Have a look at https://careerhelper.pro - that's my site. Any feedback you could give me would be a big help!

Thank you everyone for taking the time to give me helpful messages. I have spent the morning being interviewed by ChatGPT, who'd have thought! So helpful.

One issue, I went to find something to wear and discovered everything that I deemed interview suitable no longer fits! But never mind, not much ChatGPT could help with there 🤣

Thanks again
