I had an interview for a part-time job with a national charity and was offered the role.
The job ad stated I would be providing support to clients within my local town and the nearest town.
Location is key for me as I have a disability and cannot drive due to lack of vision in one eye. I also struggle to do long, repeated journeys on trains which is why I applied for what I thought was a local role (I can travel by bus in my town and the nearest one without too many issues).
At interview I asked about the ''patch'' allocation and was assured this would be based on where I live. But when I received the offer/contract the role is listed as covering an entire county.
I queried this and asked for the 'patch' to be written into the contract. They have come back to say it cannot do this as I will be expected to go where clients referrals are made and over staff holidays/absences in other patches within the county.
They do not contribute to the cost of transport either so on a part-time salary travelling back and forth would make little sense financially.
I had a nightmare experience with my previous role in the same sector where I was hired to do an hybrid role with the agreement I would only have to attend the office (a 5 hour journey in total for me) every three months only for my manager to ask me to come in every week a few months later which was simply impossible for me to sustain.
Am I unreasonable to decline the offer under the circumstances to avoid another bad experience? I am also annoyed to be honest about the lack of transparency about what the job really entailed.
What would you do?
