Dd is 19 and has a genetic condition with causes problems with her bones and growth. She got a job in April and didn’t inform the interviewer she was disabled as it doesn’t normally affect her ability to do the job and she didn’t want it to influence his decision on hiring her. at her one month review only one issue was raised. That sometimes she struggles to build a rapport with customers. She agreed and told him that she would work on it. during the meeting they spoke at length about her going to uni and how he wanted to keep her on payroll and have her back during holidays. He clearly likes “banter” and thinks he is funny and is constantly trying to wind all the staff up. Dd struggles with this but mainly manages to ignore him. A few days ago he made a comment related to her disability and it really upset her. She asked him to stop and that it had upset her and he doubled down stating “its just banter” and “I can’t always be walking on eggshells with you” yesterday he called her it to his office and fired her stating “basic unprofessionalism”. He refused to give her an example of this and just kept repeating “we aren’t talking about it.” he told her to leave immediately and she wouldn’t be working her notice. he clearly didn’t like the fact that she challenged his “banter” so decided to fire her. Currently in the process of writing to HR to formally complain. any advice would be greatly appreciated.
