Nosey about nhs

Hello,

I have a conditional job offer in the nhs checks which are almost complete and just bordering on one reference. I have id check booked soon, occupational health thou is a couple of months away. Do you think I'd be waiting to see them before the job materialises. It is this that fuels all the negativity that the nhs takes so long?

I keep seeing bad things that sickness is a sticking point in the nhs for job withdrawals but I don't recall being asked myself how many sick days I'd had on the paperwork. Is this something that gets brought up in occ health?

Also they say don't hand your notice in until all checks complete and the offer goes to contract, but would they really accept in a fortnights time or even July for example I still do have a month to work for current employer?

I had to speak to OH before starting my current role as I'd declared my ASD in my application. Won't be doing that again! It did take a while, but that was mainly because it had to be a telephone call as the ASD specialist was in England somewhere (I'm in Scotland) and for some reason the calls weren't coming through. The length of time you're waiting might vary depending on the trust/health board. I have a vague memory of being asked about any sick days due to my ASD, but not general sickness.

I moved from another NHS role and the notice period was 8 weeks. I'm assuming you put your notice period on your application, so they should have been aware of it at the interview stage. I doubt they'll revoke the offer because of your notice period, if that's what you're worried about.

I applied for my job in the March and went through the process. I still even then didn’t end up starting until nearly the end of October. I didn’t have my notice in though until I got my start date.

It took 5 months from conditional offer to actually stating my job and then when I moved department it took 3 months to start new role. The wheels are turning slowly!
So in your shoes, when the time comes, negotiate your start date in line with your notice period.

Thank you all, it is just my current employer can get rather horrid saying my mind isn't on the current job and its a battle I'd rather not have. I'd tried to get a job elsewhere few months ago and that went horribly wrong.
