Ex line manager downplays my efforts and minimises my achievements still

My old line manager consistently downplayed my efforts and minimised my achievements.
it was a horrible environment so I moved to work on another like of business, but still within the same company.

I’ve put my heart into the new role and it’s been recognised internally. Today I heard him still downplaying and minimising my efforts and achievements from my new role.

At first it did get inside my head, and I’ve reminded myself this role has nothing to do with him and he has no knowledge on what has been done to get there. I am keeping my focus within my role and will continue to do my best and focus on my own career trajectory and goals.

However, I really don’t know how to navigate this. Do I just keep my head down and ignore? My only concern is if he keeps doing this that it’ll effect how my company views me internally.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Do others agree with him? Have you challenged him on his comments?

When we worked on the same team, I have challenged him on his comments. He completely gaslit me and really belittled me and my work with the only rationale of “no it’s not” or similar.
My peer reviews from my performance review were positive and said I had huge leadership potential and my clients have also given me amazing reviews.

i haven’t said anything about today and his comments now bleeding into my new role and job. He has no role or remit within my new job and has no involvement.

This is always sorted via networking opportunities with seniors. Get a decent working relationship and focus on selling yourself to them. Fuck him he is probably jealous.

This is the best way forward.
Keep it professional and never comment negatively about your ex boss, esp to other seniors. Unless you can murmur something really clever and lightweight about having different approaches. Im sure he already has a poor reputation with his peers. Your good performance will reveal what a poor manager he is.
Chin up!

Thank you!
I will keep my head down, focus on my job and doing good work and see where and how I can elevate by selling myself to seniors alongside step up with projects or tasks that elevate me.
I've been lucky that my new role has given me more access to seniors and everything has been positive so far.
I just don't understand what he gains from this, we don't even work on the same client anymore. It is incredibly frustrating.
