How do I keep my motivation at work

My previous corporate job ended in burnout and I felt I wasn’t fully emotionally available for the kids.

I have a more relaxed job with nice bosses and people and not much stress. 4 days per week, 2 days from home; however the job is a bit dull and unchallenging. But not sure I want to start job hunting again and start a new job again.

I am in my 50s and want to retire in 3 years or do 2 days per week.

Honestly if you've nice bosses I'd stay put. I had to leave a job i loved because of flexibility being removed suddenly and micronagemenf. Good managers are hard to come by.

Thank you and agree. Just need to keep my motivation up. No job is perfect

Boredom in work os hard but as you know yourself having a good manager is worth its weight in gold!

Is it that you have excess 'time' or that there's plenty to do but it's just not very interesting?

If time: try and max out your office days and be more leisurely on the wfh days. Some people will get their knickers in a twist but no reason you can't do a few jobs round the house, work in front of the tv, do personal admin etc.

If it's the work: have you tried listening to music or an audio book whilst you work? That sometimes helps me with motivation. Also trying to work in bursts:- 30 mins of focus and then a break etc.

Bit of both: excess time and job not too interesting.

This is what I am going to do as I am in not position to change jobs at my age and with current market.

Thank you

Do you enjoy attending webinars/CPD? I've started packing my days with free 1 hour training sessions, some are fairly tangential to actual role 😆

May do this on my home days

I'm stuck with the same. I'd actually be happy with a busy day of dull work, but i don't have enough. Had to cover a holiday last week and it was the first time I'd been busy.

Been in the job a year after being sacked. Probably going to stick with it for now.

Be a shame if this was my last job though as I'd be retiring on a low..:)

Motivatemeplease · 13/05/2026 20:18

I don’t mind retiring on a low anymore after my corporate job which ended in burnout. I just lost my mojo. Don’t feel I got the energy for a full on demanding job anymore.

Oddly enough I come home so tired! Then have no energy to do anything! Back to work and repeat
