TEFL Teaching or tutoring online

I've recently left teaching and am setting up an online tutoring business. I've been taken on by an agency which does SEND and AP provision for local authorities, which should give me some daytime work, and I'm planning to do up to 8 hours a week in the evenings and weekends with GCSE students (my subject is English). My question is, has anyone ever taught students in other countries to make up more daytime hours? Either TEFL or international schools. I have taught in China before but don't have an actual TEFL qualification. The rates of pay look pretty feeble through online platforms, but I imagine more lucrative if you manage to work directly with companies/entrepreneurs who need tuition. Any experience or advice to share?

I'd avoid TEFL - the rates are terrible and the market for teachers is completely over saturated. I looked into it when I left teaching, but decided it made far more sense to stick with tutoring in my subjects. If you're a qualified teacher, you can charge up to £70 (or more!) per hour doing private tutoring, far more than you'll earn from TEFL. Look at pupils from international schools in different timezones if you need more daytime work.

Thanks - this is what I suspected. It doesn't make sense to learn a whole new set of skills to earn less money!
