Changes to my role and no consultation

At work, we’ve recently gone through a restructure. Initially, we were told our team wouldn’t be affected, but two months later this changed. Our job titles and descriptions are being updated, and extra tasks added. These changes came into effect yesterday, yet we still haven’t received our new job descriptions, despite HR saying our manager would share them.

What’s frustrating is that other teams were consulted on their changes, but ours wasn’t. We could have offered useful input. Some colleagues are already feeling the impact, as additional work has increased their workload.

A colleague from another team has said one of my tasks will be reassigned. I’ve been asked to train someone, but I currently don’t have capacity due to deadlines. I’ve also raised concerns with my manager that the colleague taking this on may struggle, based on my previous experience in that role.

I’m also uncomfortable because the person pushing for this change has previously tried to shift their workload onto others, including me, which caused stress. It was games they were planning and 2 colleagues were going out for long lunches and days out. Other organisations highlighted the work was not being done as requests were not responded to so these colleagues were put in a separate team. The people who knew of this have since left. I don’t want to raise this as it may come across as gossip, but I am concerned the same situation is happening again.

I’ve warned my colleague they may struggle with the added responsibility and tried to prevent this from happening. I don’t want to be seen as causing more work for them.

Overall, I feel stressed and anxious. While my manager says this is about “up-skilling,” it feels like I’m losing responsibilities instead. I’m also worried about being blamed if things go wrong, or if I’m later asked to help with a backlog. With further tasks already being taken from me, I’m concerned about my role and future workload. I don’t want to lose my job.

I am in the union if I need to escalate it.
