Recruitment process for £100k+ roles

what is the recruitment process is like for roles say over £100k, do employers tend to move quickly or slowly at this level?

I applied for a bunch of roles recently. Had 4 stage 1 interviews within the first 2 weeks since applying, passed all of the interviews but it’s been a snail’s pace since.

They all seem to have multiple stage processes and I can’t gauge if the current slowness is normal, or if I’m out of the running!

I do have one stage 2 interview next week. I was expecting a panel but it seems to be a 1-1 chat with the current person in role. Seems quite informal, so not quite sure how to prep!

I would think that up to 4 interviews (including initial screening with recruiter) is normal. First couple by Teams then last one or 2 in person. Lots of variation. I suggest asking your recruitment contact if unsure. Good luck!

My DP’s last move took a year, 6-8 informal meetings/ interviews and a business case but I’m sure it ranges enormously sector to sector and £100k+ covers a lot of different salaries.

I guess it depends if its an industry where £100k+ is usual, ie if hed be one of many at the company or if it's a very senior role for the company.

I've twice been involved in supporting the recruitment of the 2nd kind, and although they did advertise, it was largely sown up through head hunting/someone they knew before the advert even went out.

I had 4 interviews with different people on an individual basis. The other interview where I earned £105k I had an interview with CEO and then one with the level below strangely!

Thanks everyone.

I work in tech. I’d say higher salaries are the norm for non management positions and management positions. For example, the non management roles I have interview for are £100-120k base and the leadership roles are like £130k base (different companies).

The roles I have been successful at interview stage (so far) have been senior management, associate director or pure technical roles at staff level.

In general terms, I’d say the actual employers are the Big 4 (permanent jobs), Specialist recruitment agencies for my sector ie my field of IT (again perm jobs) and then large private sector employers along the lines of Microsoft, Spotify.

Big 4 can take for-absolutely-ever. Took me 4 months from first interview to offer, and included 6 meetings total, from hiring manager interview to presentation to more informal meetings.

Interviewing IME is off the rails at the moment. 5 or 6 interviews. A ridiculous case study. And months.

Oh god, well i have a second stage interview tomorrow! Haven’t done much to prepare as well.

I’m a HT and earn over £100k.

When I interviewed for my role back in 2007 it was 3 stages - although 19 years ago still very robust.

The academy trust I work for appointed a Headteacher for another school last year and I was involved in the process - it was 5 stages!

When you are recruiting for such a senior role, it’s very important to ensure that the right appointment is made - as the wrong recruitment choice can be very costly. You want someone that can strongly perform in the role.

WestEaste · 06/03/2026 16:22

Thanks everyone. Had the interview yesterday and passed it. Onto the 3rd stage. I can’t recall how many stages they are.

Had another two interview invites for other roles too (initial hiring screen).

Such a tedious process but hopefully something lands.
