Commuter areas for Richmond upon Thames

Dear MNers

What are the best commuter areas for those working in Richmond upon Thames.

I am single and will rent or buy. Looking for somewhere that gets me into Richmond by car or train within roughly 45 mins. Any advice please?

Look at the train line from Richmond out towards Windsor and Eton Riverside. It's a cheaper area than towards London.

What’s your budget and what kind of property do you want? W/SW London is your oyster if you want to stay in London. Otherwise the train line to Windsor is an option.

Driving to be avoided unless you can park reliably? And travel earlier/later as traffic is horrific.

Budget is upto £220k to buy or £1100 rental.

Are there any areas in W or SW London you would recommend?

That’s a tricky budget even for the less desirable areas (like mine!). You can get a studio in nice areas and 1/32 bed flat in the less nice areas.

That’s a room rental in SW London … Bracknell would be in your budget, straight through train line and also easy drive on the M3

I would definitely test drive that several times. Once the M3 becomes the A316, just before Hampton Hill so the Bracknell side of Twickenham and Richmond, the traffic can really be stop and start. There are also frequently hold-ups around the exit to the M25. On the return journey there's frequently a hold-up where the M25 joins.

I did the drive very regularly to Hampton Hill for over 3 years to visit unwell elderly parents. On the occasions I had to travel further towards Twickenham, it tended not to be a smooth run.

I was going to suggest looking possibly Twickenham/Hampton Wick/Teddington, but I don't know current prices, or what those places are like nowadays.

Staines is 16 minutes on the train to Richmond. It on a fairly quick line into London too. There are a few flats within 0.5 miles of the station in your budget.

We used to live in Richmond borough and my daughter gets the train to Richmond daily. With £1100 to rent it’s a room in a shared house. Maybe Whitton or Twickenham. You won’t get anything self contained in Richmond borough.

Assuming you prefer to live alone you might get a tiny studio on the Windsor line in Ashford or Feltham or Staines.
Feltham is good for transport options. Staines is just about within that commuting distance and nicer than Feltham but is pricey.
My daughter is moving out very soon and will be renting a studio near the station in Staines at £1300. She looked at ALL the options!

Bracknell is cheaper but train will cost and driving will take too long. You can get some 1 bed flats there for £220k.

This is on the trainline to Richmond, and v close to Kingston which is a lovely town centre, and not way out of London

There are others in the area but they will have higher service charges, short leases or auction properties that will go for much more.

Check out this 1 bedroom flat for sale on Rightmove

1 bedroom flat for sale in Chesham Road, Kingston Upon Thames, KT1 for £200,000. Marketed by Snellers, Teddington
