What is your job title and how much do you earn?

As per title. What do you do and how much do you get paid?

I'll go first; SAHM. £0 pa.

I have a degree in Psychology, but I have never done anything with it as I fell pregnant not long after graduating. But soon, ill have enough time to go back to work full time and I honestly cant wait! I just feel at this point in my life im not sure if I want to pursue a career directly related to my degree.

So, i'm asking you fellow mumsnetters what you do, so I can get a feel of whats out there with accurate salary / hourly rate reflections.

If anyone also has any advice on what other things I could do with my degree, id be very appreciative! I have heard a lot about recruitment / HR roles being fond of Psychology graduates, but job advertisements for those roles always require experience. I also graduated in 2018 which does NOT work well in my favour, but a degree is a degree and im sure it'll help with some roles (or at least I hope so lol).

Thanks!

I am an interventions manager in the probation service. I’m on £35k (not in London). The same role exists in prisons and a lot of prisons look for psychologists to support the programmes they run.

Excellent advice! Did consider becoming a forensic psychologist during my time in uni, but honestly the idea escaped me until now. Will look into probationary roles, thank you :)

Civil servant, entry level role, 30 years service. Part time on 13k, super flexible hours around school run and WFH. Also a foster carer, which is c24k

Yeah i feel like this is the kinda of thing I'm aiming for right now; flexibility is imperative for the foreseeable due to school drop offs / pick ups, holidays, etc. Thanks for sharing :)

No wonder Jamiroquai isn’t making music anymore if he’s now on that much.

3rd sector finance manager £47k on 0.8fte, probs not for a psychology background but whatever you go for, make sure it's survivable on should you end up a single mum as you just never know. I can tell you now my salary in the south east doesn't make that easy!

Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist. Around £50k - I’m self-employed so it fluctuates depending on whether I take the whole summer holidays off.

That sounds so good. How did you qualify?

Specialist speech and language therapist. 15 years after graduating I’m on just over 40k. I would say that a lot of more high flying people in my profession get to this level a lot quicker!

Having a first degree in psychology and then doing a 2 year Masters is a really normal route to training as a SaLT. Pm me if you want more info.

That sounds like something I'd actually like to get into. My son receives SALT and its nice to see how much of a difference its making. I will do, thank you :)

I’m an Office Manager in a Building Maintenance/Construction company. I earn 62k per year and we have excellent ‘benefits’ in the form of not having to book AL for things like appointments, school events, deliveries etc. We have no set lunch breaks and can nip out of we need to. I have no A-Levels and certainly never bothered with University.

Accidentally! Started off as a junior/admin assistant and worked my way up. Company paid for me study, not necessary for what I do. I've worked with the same company the whole time, longevity can count for a lot.

I was talking to dh earlier about changing jobs earlier and my youngest dc said I could become a weirdo.

I asked if “weirdo” was actually a job and what does a weirdo do all day long?

And he said “that’s exactly the kind of question a weirdo would ask.” Laughed and wandered off to play Legos.

So I’m currently an accountant and I earn £50k. But quite intrigued by the idea of becoming a professional weirdo.

Hahaha, this made me laugh so much. Kids are the best. Im actually a qualified weirdo myself, while I don't get paid actual money, I do get paid in laughter and insults lol

I do not know if are qualified to be a weirdo, but I am offended by your pluralisation of "Legos"... which probably means that I could get a job as a weirdo.

School cook. £23,000, more or less.

That's good for a school cook! Did you need any qualifications? Also, do you get paid during half term / summer holidays?

My mum is a LO at a school and gets paid throughout the holidays. When I've seen these types of jobs advertised online, they seem to always disclose that these roles are only paid during term time.
