I work in the field of non-for-profit/charity/government. Think the size of the civil service or NHS. Basically it’s not industry so it uses public funds.
I knew what to expect before I joined but I didn’t expect to discover the scale of the problem, and the way it’s just accepted as a cultural thing. I am actively depressed at the injustice of it all. It runs from top to bottom. The money involved is billions. It could be changed but the cultural shift would be massive.
money wasting
slow progress. Giving projects deadlines of years. Projects get funding and then fall off the radar. No accountability for spend.
people in high-up positions who haven’t got a clue yet are making key decisions
bullying of those who do speak up. Brown-nosing from those who keep quiet.
use of expensive consultancy firms who drag out projects to years. The advice and recommendations they give are simple (shouldn’t have taken years, didn’t require a consultancy) but goes nowhere. The money they get is eye-watering. Easily matches some benefits costs.
anyone who is remotely articulate hops over to rhe consultancy side and makes millions.
I cannot sit through another meeting where we are shown a PowerPoint to illustrate a problem that nobody acts upon. That uses data with “limitations” to draw conclusions that go into an official report that everyone knows is codswallaop. Nobody goes out to the areas where we are meant to work. We all just sit in offices or WFH.
I am upset that there are parts of this organisation that are meant to help those people in real need yet they are told no money available.
i am upset that people working there have learned to turn a blind eye and just get on with pointless work and ask no questions because it pays the bills and they can go home on time.
i do not want to become one of those people. But if I don’t then I will end up even more upset than I already am.
