Occupational health report - phased return

user8900988 · 27/01/2026 17:14

I had an occupational health meeting a week ago and they advised a phased return and amended duties. I am currently off sick but due back on Monday should my manager contact me before my return?

They should do, if they haven’t though I would get in touch.

Yes you should have a meeting with your manager (can be over telephone if need be) to agree what your phased return will look like before Monday.
If you haven’t heard from manager by tomorrow lunchtime I’d give her a call to discuss

@user8900988 your manager should contact you but there is nothing to stop you being pro active and contacting them. Ideally have an idea of what hours you want to do as your phased return .

When you say an OH meeting do you mean an assessment or a meeting with manager to discuss OH assessment?
Remember OH are recommendations - the employer doesn’t need to implement them.

I always discuss and agree phases return before the return date so that the staff member knows what hours they will be doing.

Meeting with manager to discuss OH assessment, I don't think I will be able to return yet without adjustments so need to know if they are going to implement them or not.

Ok, so that’s the purpose of this meeting. So why do you think they should meet with you ahead of that meeting?

I wanted to meet before returning to work it was advised in my OH report. I'm worried about returning to work and none of the recommendations being implemented as I don't think I can work without them, I want to return but safely.

You have to give them a chance.
Employers won’t usually meet with you / bother you with work related stuff whilst you’re signed off. They may do a wellness check-in, but not a proper meeting. This is your return to work meeting where you get to agree on what that looks like. Also remember you will only get paid for the hours worked unless you have sick pay left and they let you use that. It can also be unpaid.

I'm just anxious about none of the recommendations being implemented. Two other staff members are off sick and another is on a phased return so I feel that my adjustments will be ignored.

Id honestly just contact them will save on a lot of stress and anxiety. Plus you need to know what hours you are doing

But are your adjustments the exact same as your colleagues?

yes both occupational health reports recommend a phased return, use of stool/chair and extra breaks

It’s probably stressful but phased return unkess you’re all off at the same time for the same time? Use of a stool won’t affect others and am assuming you’re not all taking the extra breaks together?
