Does this mean I won’t get the job?

Interviewed yesterday for a new role. Slightly more senior than I’m doing on paper currently but nothing I haven’t done before/not currently doing (my job total officially doesn’t really reflect my current responsibilities).

interview went well, discussed next steps and seemed positive. Final question just as wrapping up ‘would you be open to other roles in X department as we expand it?’ - no other roles advertised and recruiter not aware of any either.

Probably just means that they know there will be other similar opportunities coming up and they intend to hold an appointable list and make offers from that, rather than recruiting again

I think it depends how you answered it

Depends on your response. I once interviewed for a band 6 nhs job that I was well qualified for, was doing a band 5 job. I was asked if I'd consider working in an adjacent team on a band 5. I said I'd consider it however I'd applied for this job because it was a promotion and I was at a time in my career when I was ready for new challenges. I got the band 6 but I later found out several were offered jobs in the adjacent team on a band 5. So definitely doesn't mean you haven't got it

I said I’m open to anything that would challenge me. The interviewer seemed to like this answer! So fingers crossed

I’ve asked that question before - often I would get people wanting to piggyback onto my recruitment. It didn’t mean I wasn’t going to hire you, it was just to gauge interest.
