Single SAHM and Self Employment = Good idea?

I'm a single SAHM, currently on benefits, and renting a flat. I have been looking into self employment, and have found a company that I really like the sound of, think I can do-ably do as I have mornings free whilst DD is at nursery, and also evenings/nights when she's in bed (sleeps through and is good at going down at 7pm). Looking through all the factors, the job is doable. However, I'm worried about how self employment will affect me.

How do benefits like Child Tax Credit and Income Support get affected by this? Would I be able to claim Working Tax Credit through this? Is there anywhere I can phone or go to to seek more advice? I have noted Citizens Advice and will be there first thing Monday morning.

Thank you for anyone who can help.

I dont know much about this but didnt want to leave you unanswered. There is a website (think its hmrc or direct gov) which has a questionnaire telling you whether you qualify for working tax credits etc. If you look under search for benefits there has definately been other people who have asked a similar question to you in the past so those answers may be more helpful. Not exactly sure how self employent would work because your salary may vary from month to month. There is a self employed thread as well (only saw it today) so try that as well. Good luck.

talk to your new deal for lone parents advisor at your local job centre and google 'new deal for lone parents' I'm sure you are still entitled to all your benefits for the first six months.
