Hiya

Early 50s suffers from.lack of confidence in herself.
Currently work two jobs , 1 is early mornings which i enjoy my 2nd one starts at 4.30pm to 7.30pm school cleaner, been doing both for a year as moved to new area.
Really hard to find one full time job in this area..but happy with my early morning one, im home by 9am few mornings a week. Friend said her place is recruiting in a office for 4 afternoons a week starting at 12 to 4.30pm
Anyway popped along for a chat, quite hard interview to be honest , thought i can at least gain experience from interview, then few days later they phoned offered me the job..totally shocked, they think i am good fit..
Its in a small call centre dealing with various enquiries and with targets etc loads more money than my cleaning job and benfits..
Ive worked in call centre before for few years before my move for nhs, so used that environment thete were no managers on site so quite relaxed to a point...
but this is proper set up managers in same room.as you etc..my friend is working different department and she works diffetent shift pattern as f/ t...
Okay im waffling i am so nervous...will i be good at it, can i do the job...
School cleaning is cleaning have my own area and get on with it...bring home £600 month this new job £980 month..
Unfortunatdly no friends here to talk to, i like the three other ladies in cleaning job we have a chat etc but not to socialise outside of work.
I feel sick of what to do for best

Speak to your evening job and ask if you can start later (5pm - 8pm for example). Then you can fit all 3 jobs in and see how you get on for a little while. If you decide the call centre isn’t for you after you’ve been there for a month or so, resign, and carry on with the other 2 jobs.

Tabbykat72 · 14/01/2026 10:15

@IchiNiSanShiGo i did think of that but wont get to cleaning job in time for 5pm and being at the school they need to set alarm at set time..appricate your help,

Depends what you are doing in the call center. Is it selling or customer service?Ive done that kind of work in the distant past when you might get one rude or aggressive caller per shift. Now many more are abusive and you can go home feeling wrung out and good for nothing. Unless you are the kind of person who can detach yourself from the callers and just use the "script". Whereas in your cleaning job you are your own boss (in your own work area) and you have cordial relations with co workers. You can also see the direct result of your work and feel pride in it. While the money in the call center is attractive there is a very high turnover in these types of jobs. Depends whats important to you.

I think your current arrangement will be less stressful with more autonomy. Call centre environment often toxic.

Mumof1andacat · 14/01/2026 12:07

Working in a call centre with targets. No way. Stick out for something better

PineappleMelon · 14/01/2026 12:11

Is the money from the call centre guaranteed or is it only if you meet the targets?

I understand the lure of more money but for me my peace of mind would be better suited to sticking with the calmer cleaning job and continuing to look for something to replace it with. That’s just me though.

BillieWiper · 14/01/2026 12:14

Go for it. The worst that can happen is you're not good at it and don't enjoy it but at least you'll know. There's no shortage of need for cleaners so you can always go back to that.

But I'm sure you'll be fine. You've done call centre work before. There's no need to be nervous, they'll give you training and guidance.

Tabbykat72 · 14/01/2026 13:14

@PineappleMelon its a yearly set wage
