What would you do in this situation?

I applied for a job a few weeks ago. At the time I emailed someone at their HR dept a couple of times about the timeline of their recruitment procedure, etc, and they told me they'd get back to me in two weeks. It's now been three weeks, and so I emailed them at the start of this week asking what was happening.

I've had no reply (since Monday) to that email, which frankly I think is rude - though of course they might have other things going on. I'm assuming that I haven't been selected; if so I'd like to know why as I wrote a good application and ticked all their boxes. Do you think it would seem like I'm hassling them if I emailed again? They've deftly managed to avoid their phone no being listed anywhere so I have no choice but to use email.

What would you do?

I'd E-Mail back, no harm is there, nothing to lose and if I could find out why I didn't get the job I would.

Can you find out the name of the head of HR and call him/her?

I agree - very very rude.

Hilder · 12/06/2008 16:11

Try phoning.

Tis very rude - although to be fair, may not be entirely HR's fault (although of course they should be up to keeping you in the loop) Assume you can get a general switchboard number? Why not just call that & ask to talk to someone in HR re your recent application?

I quite like Asda with Roll-Bach as a middle name.

That's very rubbish. HR may be suffering trying to pin down whoever it is in the dept in question about the timeline, but that's obviously no excuse for not keeping people in the loop.

You must be able to find a switchboard number for the company from somewhere. Try that and get yourself put through to HR, and see how you get on.
