Has anybody experienced not being given very much work as maternity leave approaches?

Take all the slack they can give you!

You say 7 weeks til mat leave - but it is always possible the baby will come early and the last thing you want to have to do in labour is phone work and hand on all your projects.

Just remember this is almost the last time ever you get to relax....

The same happened to me. At the time it didn't bother me too much as it was a very hot summer, I was knackered and after working flat out for years welcomed the break. I did a lot of 'web-based research'... but, I did find it was symptomatic of how they treated me wrt returning to work and I ended up changing jobs as a result. I'd be inclined to raise your concerns in a non-confrontational manner with a sympathetic manager.

I wish! We've had two people leave (out of a team of 4) and their work spread between the two left.

I work in property law, so the market downturn has reduced the workload a bit, but 10 hour days still pretty normal, which is great when I have swollen legs and can't walk properly.

Seabright have you had a risk assessment? Don't be a hero at this point in time, it's not worth it.

god i wish...i did 18 hour days when i was eight months pregnant. looking back i must have been mad. put your feet up and enjoy.

Yes this happened to me. Then while I was off on Mat Leave 2 new members of staff arrived (transferred from other offices). One came to cover my job and enjoyed it so much she stayed on, then the other was given my desk

I came back to a very boring job sat in a corridor..

this happened to me...... it got so bad i was literally doing the photocopying for my subordinates!!!!

but then, they knew i wasn't coming back - they cancelled my contract when they found out i was pg

This is happening to me too and driving me absolutely round the bend!!!

Even more so since they turned down my flexible working application to work three days from home (which is what I'd been doing for well over a year before they suddenly decided I ought to come in more often). It's nothing to do with amount of work done (plenty)....supposed to come in to learn new things on new projects that involve more teamwork and instantly got ordered to work on an old project for someone who seems to have been bullying me (who is likely to say anything good is his own work anyway), completely all on my own with the morale level of a dead pigeon (with apologies to pigeons everywhere) . Apparantly not allowed to do anything else.... .

[sigh]. Well I suppose I did get asked to write a book review by a lovely someone from somewhere else so maybe it's not as bad as all that.
Oof thanks for letting me vent my spleen!

yep this happened to me for 6 weeks ... i tried to relax into it. Came in later, left earlier, did all I was asked to do (and more unasked), and took full lunch hours. I also suspect it is an indicator of what I may encounter when I return after ML
