Tips on starting a new job?

I landed a roll I've wanted for a long time and start in just over a week. I'm excited and terrified all at the same time. I just want to start well and make a good impression. Any tips? anything to avoid? I was with my last employer a really long time so navigating a new start is unfamiliar territory.

I'm in exactly the same position except I start at the end of the month. I can't wait to start new role but I was with my last employer for a long time. Let me know how you get on.

For me, I'm hunting the sales for a few really nice professional outfits in the hope of looking properly put together. I've also been researching the field a bit, my skillset is a perfect match but I'm jumping fields entirely. I've got a notebook of questions I want to ask as I bed in and I'm jotting down new ones when I think of them.

What is the job? That changes the advice significantly.

But overall, just engaging with everyone, good eye contact, remember things about people. And find the most valuable thing to do and do it.

Firstly congratulations.

Make notes and ask questions about the work if applicable. People will see you are nervous and don’t mind going over things a few times if needed. If a job you have wanted for a while I’m sure you will be enthusiastic and be willing to learn so don’t worry about that, people will see it.

If you are unsure of how to do something just ask. I don’t mind being asked several times (especially if you are taking notes and I can see you are willing). It’s hard when you’ve done a job for a while and training someone new sometimes you forget they don’t know certain aspects.

Enjoy it and breathe, you’ll be fine.

I too have made a few clothing purchases to spruce up my work look 🙂. I have the notebook and have set aside a few days to refresh my knowledge on a couple of things, I know I can do the job. I just seem to be having a little wobble in confidence about it all (temporary I'm sure).
