nhs - sick days

does anyone know the policies with workung in the nhs with a disability under equality act 2010 with regards to sick days?

i am aware hospital and dr appts you are entitled to. but worried about sickdays/numer of absences/episodes

I don’t think it’s that great to be honest. Depends on your manager. Occupational health can help with adjustments but they’re reccomendations. Management of sick and absences usually involves been put on sickness stagings with regular meetings which is down to managers discretion but allowed sick days before going to stage 1 management is very little

I dont think NHS workers are entitled to time off for doctors appointments. It is expected that you make them outside of working hours, or, if on flexi time, make the time up.

I work for the nhs and any sickness that is disability should be recorded separately and not be taken into account for monitoring purposes..Try googling nhs AFC terms and conditions

It’s not true that it’s not recorded or monitored. It would generally have something like double triggers. When I was a ward manager and then service manager, I still had to manage the sickness episodes of people under the equality act, they just had different margins for triggering stages of sickness.

Agree with PP it will still be recorded and monitored but if it’s related to a disability it will have different triggers for absence management. Even with a disability and coming under the EQA you can still be referred to OH to assess if you are actually fit enough to be working if you are frequently off sick due to your condition.

This is correct, I work in nhs and Dr appointments are taken as leave if in working hours

Disability-related leave isn't used towards traditional sickness triggers, but you can still be dismissed if you are found to not be able to provide "regular and effective service". Its a fallacy that you cannot be dismissed with a disability. How much time off are we talking?

You need to read your Trusts sickness policy. It will be available on the intranet.
