Work claiming my fit note isn't legit.

I've currently been signed off after having my wisdom tooth out last week. Signed off because I'm in so much pain. The dentist was only able to remove part of the tooth, so there's still a large part of the tooth that is impacting and pushing on my other teeth. (Reason it was being removed in the first place).

I self-certified first, and then got a fit note from Updoc, who I have used before and are a legitimate GP website. I can't get an appointment with my own GP, there's at least a 2 month wait. They tell you to go to A&E if it's an emergency. Which is why I used an online service.

About 6 months ago, I was signed off with stress, same employer. I used Updoc for my fit note, and there were no problems. This time, my manager has emailed me and said HR have said the fit note doesn't meet the requirements for a medical letter and I need to see my GP.

The fit note is the exact same format, same GP as the previous one. Can they really refuse to accept it? I've tried googling the laws around fit notes, but can't seem to get a straight answer on what is acceptable.

I would go into your gp and explain the situation. I have a sick note at the moment and they didn’t even need to see me. I just explained the issue over the phone and they emailed me the form. I wouldn’t bother arguing it with HR just see what you can get from the Dr.

I mean just turn up at reception and ask what the procedure is in this situation. They might not have appointments but they should be able to write a note without seeing you

For fit notes at our GP you just message them using there service on the website and they send a text with the sicknote attachment. No need for an appointment. Check what it says online specifically for your GP.

Just message your GP for a sick note.

At our GP (and most others I know of) require you to have a consultation first before issuing a fit note, and thereafter you can simply renew it online. Did you have a consultation with Updoc?

It could be the rules around sick notes changes in your workplace recently. Can you go the GP in person, explain the situation and see what they suggest?

Thanks for the replies. I've managed to get a phone consult on Saturday with my GP.
