Can I bring shepherd's pie to a work picky lunch?

I know this is an incredibly trivial question but I have an office "picky lunch" potluck coming up and everyone is else bringing bits like scotch eggs, mini pizzas, quiches etc would it it weird to bring shepherd's pie or steak pie as I quite fancy something warm? I'm not from the UK so this idea is still quite novel to me. Thanks!!

I always like dark rye bread cut out with cookie cutters, a blob of cream cheese with a small piece of smoked salmon on top. Ideally dill but at a pinch some very very finely diced parsley could be dusted over. You could use fish roe too for a caviar effect. You can easily get a plateful of these really quickly and it looks pretty. A warm pie is not suitable for shared picky lunch. It will be messy to cut and serve - it really needs plates and cutlery. I am not sure many people are madly keen on cold pasta but I stand to be corrected if people really want to dig into this sort of thing - and again not so easy to serve or eat.

I’d do a big bowl of pigs in blankets. Could heat them if you have access to a microwave.

shepherd’s pie wouldn’t work as finger foods

But revenge is best served cold...

Personally I would start looking for a new job... I couldn't work anywhere that thought using the term 'picky lunch' was acceptable in a professional setting... 😂

It doesn’t fit the brief at all!

You could make sheperd pie pies, so individual pastry cases, they could have a lid, or be open with the potato on top.

The Filipino and Indian staff at my workplace often bring in hot dishes.

CheeseIsMyIdol · 23/11/2025 16:44

No. It’s clearly meant to be finger food.

Not appropriate for a fuddle at all.
