I’m trying to decide what I want to do as a career change (25 years of work left) and I think this field interests me. I’m unsure of the various roles that exist at a kind of entry level/career changer level? I have a degree in an English related subject and years of working experience, but in other industries.

Can any people in the know advise?

What is your career experience?

Thegrassroots26 · 19/11/2025 15:25

Varied!
PR, marketing, comms, journalism, worked in schools as support in class, worked in children’s services supporting vulnerable women/families.

So never really settled? And none of them appealed to progress?

I took a long gap in order to raise kids, so became difficult to return to former roles. Then took roles that fitted around the kids… tale as old as time. But now would like to try to find something that is interesting and makes me feel a bit useful, while earning enough to live.

So when was the last time you worked?

You’re goin to need to start at the bottom. Look for basic admin person or even reception at a legal company.

Then after you have shown yourself to be reliable and committed (no less than a year), ask for training. Maybe a para legal

Youth justice support worker sounds a good bet.

PracticalPixie · 19/11/2025 15:44

There is a job where you support people with SEN and MH problems in the court room. Your classroom experience might be helpful for that. I forget the name of the job unfortunately, but maybe have a google.

Maybe look at working for the CPS 40% working in the office, 60% at home. There’s teams all over the country
