Do you feel bad when looking for another job?

Even when you know it’s time to move on do you feel in two minds about it? Or feel a bit guilty? Or worried that the next role won’t work out? Or is this just me?!

As ive gotten older- yes. When I was younger I genuinely didn't GAF.

Im surprised at myself though because im currently in quite a toxic and chaotic environment which younger me absolutely wouldn't have stood for.

Im in the same position where I know moving on would be best but I am in 2 minds... how long have you been at your current place?

If the company you worked for was facing financial difficulties they would likely get rid of staff and do what was best for the company. In the same way, you should do what is best for you. Leaving doesn't mean youve not been a good employee. Hopefully they will recognise everything you have contributed.

A new job can be a risk - but if you are unhappy where you are, it might be a risk worth taking.

Been in current role for 3 years. I seem to get more scared of change the older I get! How do people change jobs without stressing about it?!

I don’t feel bad and I actually always tell them I’m looking. Not for leverage or anything, just because I hate having to ‘lie’ about where I am when interviewing.

This didn’t pan out in my last role, but it was a big risk and I hated it, so telling them I was leaving went down badly - just like MNsetters said, so maybe don’t follow my advice.

I do feel bad to be job hunting while I am in a job that treats me well. That doesn't stop me from doing it if it's the right thing to do for my career or personal life.

My previous job I was in for a long time and due to several circumstances I left. I did feel very bad for my boss who I got on well with. He literally begged me to stay and looked teary when I gave my notice in. First few months I felt I had made a mistake and nearly went back. My boss was still in contact with me at that point so I probably could have but didn’t. A year later the company went under so I would have been out of a job anyway. Now I love my current job and wished I had moved sooner.

No, I never feel guilty.

I’ve worked alongside senior management in business and there are very few staff who would be culled without thought if business needs changed. That’s my experience over multiple businesses not just one.

I don’t make it obvious but I’m only loyal to myself now.

If you are overall happy in your job, paid enough to live a decent life, your input is valued and there are opportunities to progress if you want them I would stay put in the current climate.

What’s missing from this list in your current job?
