Claiming degrees you dont have

Hi, I have a colleague who is claiming to have degrees she doesnt have. She has two degrees on her email signature that don't match the ones on our company CVs that go out to third parties which is what led me to noticing. So I did a bit of checking and on LinkedIn she has a completely different degree listed, with the university name. So I emailed the university which is in Australia, that information is on public record there, and they confirmed that degree and date. She works on winning business for the company so I think any sort of fraud would be really bad for the company, she's worked here for 10 years though. She has recently been promoted, and is good at her job. I'm in a different team and it makes no difference to me, I was just wondering if I should let anyone know as they've just won a really public facing project. What do you think?

I wouldn't rate the 'honesty and integrity' of someone who is taking it upon themselves to check up on colleagues like this and snoop around behind their backs.

Well we don't know what raised their suspicions that the person was an imposter. There was a fake nurse in our press just recently.

But why didn't they just ask them about the new qualification.

I think that people claiming they have qualifications they don't have and cheating in online exams is pretty common. I hate it. It means that people who've put all the work in to gain those qualifications fairly miss out to cheats and liars. It undermines the whole system.

So does it matter if someone doesnt have the degrees?

Will you actually answer why you hate this woman so much?

Why are the replies worrying for society?

The reaction and the replies have been based on data you provided. And you did not state at the start that your industry has a legal requirement on qualifications.

Indeed, many posters asked you if that was the case, and it took a while for you to confirm.

It's the internet, and the internet is not society.

Forums are a good way to pick up snippets of info though, to file away for the future.

A good example from this thread is the data protection stuff in Ozz. I never knew that.

What have you decided to do? Are you going to express your concerns to HR?

What is not true?

I just rechecked your OP, no mention of qualifications being a legal requirement.

Or is it my comment on the internet not being society that is not true ? Yeah, that's my opinion.

Or is it the posts on Oz data law that are not true ?

If the person is claiming to be an architect the qualifications are a legal requirement because architect is a protected title and the routes to obtaining it are not very diverse.
