Working in care

Has anyone ever worked in 'companionship care' with the elderly? How does it differ from conventional care? So far as I understand it, in companionship care you don't physically engage – i.e wash the client, help them in and out of bed, etc (presumably that requires careful training). Instead, you run errands, keep them company, get their shopping, and so on. Is that correct? Has anyone ever done this? I'm sure the pay is wretched, but I quite like the idea. It feels like a worthwhile job – actually helping people for a change.

It is likely to be close to NMW if it’s via an Agency or employer. If you can get private clients then you set the price.

There is a need for companionship, shopping, etc. without personal care. Home Instead maybe a good employer to contact to see if they do companionship only.
