Which job

I work for the council in job A, offered job B

A- been there 3 years as a casual worker. Professional/ statutory role across many sites. It’s casual and work fluctuates, but there’s consistently more work requests than I can cover my claims are high. Obviously no sick pay etc. Work ebbs and flows but averages out, some weeks 40 hours, some weeks none. With redundancies more and more work comes to my way as I’m casual.

b- more secure, pt role with set hours and location, concentrated into 2.5 days, not all over the place. Sick pay etc. tiny amount more pay, though still a niche roll and fairly alone working. Less responsibility in terms of statutory duties, a bit more people focused. Steady work I can plan, probably similar pay. Security. However, loss of flexibility/ time to see kids for one off events, holidays etc.

Basically the pay is similar, job b is far simpler and gives security. Maybe a little dull though and I loose my flexible lifestyle in return for stability

Ask if they can be flexible occasionally on job B as long as 2.5 days are done.

Why have they offered job b? Is it possible they want to keep you but will not be able to as the casual arrangement going forwards? If someone else takes b does a still exist?

It’s a different council which seems to have different practices. Mine are very keen on remote work and flexibility, closed down a lot of sites a few years ago and got people casual and remote in huge numbers.
This council are still in the world of fixed hours, in an office, teams face to face. It’s made clear.

Apologies I wasn’t clear. Neighbouring council.

My job in council a will never disappear, and there’s a lot of work BUT it’s subject to a lot of external diary planning. I often have to pass on work or swap work because no one works with me on diaries. Most weeks about 50% of my work is planned and 50% is cover work or rescheduled work. And it’s getting worse
