To accept job offer or not?

I have had 2 interviews and 5 more coming up. I got a call with a job offer today. Do I accept it even though it isn’t the job I want? I need to work and it is a job. Should I accept, ask to start in a few weeks and go for the other interviews? Is that wrong?

I have had a few recruiters call after putting my CV online. 1 has led to an interview and I am waiting to hear back if I got through to the 2nd round. The other 2 have a role in mind and are talking to the relevant people on the companies they represent to see if they would like to meet me.

Ekkkk I’ve been offered the role! I’m so happy. Need to let the original offer down now. Feel awful as it’s a family business but this just feels more right plus fairly decent pay rise and many more benefits overall.

@Almost2026 congratulations well done - so pleased for you. I know the feeling but you need to do what is best for you!

Congratulations, don't give it a seconds thought, do what's best for you.

My 2 interviews went well today especially the second one. It was via Teams but over ran by 30 mins as we were discussing the role etc so much. I will find out next week if I got either position 🤞🏻

🤞fingers crossed for you!

I signed my contract today and sent the original offer an email withdrawing. I haven’t had a reply so far.

I’m struggling to keep positive? It just seems impossible to get offers at the moment.

Surviving45 · 31/10/2025 07:13

@Cloud44 how long have you been applying for? Have you got anyone to look at your CV? Also, are you changing your CV and covering letter to match the job description?

I’m sure someone will be along to tell me I’m wrong but I’ve seen lots of people across multiple companies pull out after offer and no one ever follows it up in any way other than a disappointed groan that they are back to square one in recruiting.

Who gets unconditional offers? aren't they usually worded as dependent on references etc.

True but doesn’t usually make reference to the employee withdrawing rather than the employee.

Almost2026 · 31/10/2025 13:59

I never even got a response from the company I withdrew from, probably says a lot about them.

Surviving45 · 31/10/2025 17:48

I have turned down 2 jobs now after verbally accepting them. The 1st company didn’t acknowledge my refusal even though I emailed & left a voicemail and the 2nd company I emailed/called and they said it was a shame but I had to do what was best for me. I honestly cannot imagine a company doing anything unless you actually start working. Although, at my previous company we had a few employees only do a day and never returned 🤦🏻‍♀️

Haha yes we had a couple of those at my last company too. We all used to joke they were the most sensible amongst us.

@Surviving45 I’ve been looking on and off since April. Had a couple of interviews earlier in the year and apparently narrowly missed out but nothing recently.

Surviving45 · 31/10/2025 22:16

@Cloud44 ah that’s a shame you missed out. I would definitely say look at your CV again. Make sure it shows what you have achieved e.g coordinating x resulted in y sort of thing. You can use copilot to help you write short, concise sentences for bullet points for each job you have done so far. Also, I make sure my cv & covering letter have the key words from the JD in so if under essential skills is time management - I would make sure that was in my cv & covering letter. I hope that helps 🤞🏻

Thank you @Surviving45 its really hard to stay positive when you don’t feel like you are getting anywhere!

Surviving45 · 01/11/2025 08:17

@Cloud44 yes I can imagine that is difficult hoped something will come along soon 🤞🏻
