Baby loss awareness emails

Am I overly sensitive here.
This week is Baby Loss Awareness Week and work have decided to mark it by sending everyone, and I mean everyone, anonymous stories sent in by fellow staff members their experiences of miscarriage, ectopic pregnancies and late term losses.
There was no warning this would be happening, no option to opt out, or an email which says click here to read. So Monday morning at 0900 the first thing I see in my inbox was a story on multiple miscarriages.
I have had my own issues with miscarriage and sub fertility. I don't need reminding at work.
I have sent an email asking to be removed from any future emails, but am I being overly sensitive here.

You’re not being over sensitive. It sounds like my employer. Always in a bid to be seen as current, liberal and empathetic and just gets it wrong, feels tokenistic and makes it worse for those affected. If you care about baby loss then offer excellent leave for staff affected, sponsor organisations that know what they’re doing, offer a space for a group to meet if they want etc.

Thank you, I'm going to suggest that for next year if I am asked, especially the leave.
It just feels so tokenistic.
My employer has gone down the route of "bringing your whole self to work" and this is exactly why I prefer to bring my professional self to work.

That’s absolutely awful, especially for those currently pregnant and anxious! And triggering for everyone else who has experienced a loss!

Tone deaf by the sounds of it - no doubt it was well-intended, but I’m going to guess whoever’s idea it was hasn’t been at the receiving end of baby loss 😔
I second the PP above and provide some feedback to them and how they could better support those affected.

I’ve voted wrong. As I read it Yes I get it. I don’t think it’s unreasonable of you at all

Definitelynotem · 16/10/2025 11:42

I completely agree, I have an employee who has gone through multiple baby losses and I have felt really conscious of all the very public comms this week that have probably triggered all sorts of feelings for her. I think information and support should always be available via the intranet for those that want to seek it out but it shouldn’t be blasted out to people who may be struggling

Sounds like a good idea badly executed. You should definitely have had either forewarning or the ability to not read/opt out. You won’t be the only one who has had the same reaction.

But it is great to build awareness of it, it’s not something I have had firsthand experience of and I found it really powerful to hear other women’s stories. But it was at a clearly signposted optional session not a blanket email without notice!
