Should I accept a job that doesn’t excite me?

Currently job hunting; haven’t been job hunting long but started getting a bit more calls.

Would you accept a job that doesn’t excite you? It is not an improvement in your current role?

I quit my current job due to politics and unfair treatment; working my notice at the moment. The role in question seems similar to what I did before my current Corporate job; salary is good, but they are offering at fixed term contract to start with, possibility of extension.

It is a very small Company and I remember being so bored in my previous small Company before I moved to the Corporate job which I really enjoyed until things started to change.

I was approached by another Company and had an initial call; the role, company, culture, size and location is exactly what I am looking for; there are 3 more stages though.

We are ok financially for awhile with DH salary.

Paying bills excites me so that's why I work. If you can pay bills without working then you can be a bit more picky.

Thank you; yes, probably being picky

As you left your previous job because you were unhappy why would you settle for something that you can be very sure won't make you happy?

If you can afford to wait a little for a better fit then do that.

Thank you. This is my gut feeling, that I should wait for a better fit; but as everyone says the job market is tricky at the moment I get a bit doubtful. Financially I don’t need to rush, just don’t want to have a gap on my CV.

Well I went for a not as exciting job and it’s worked out amazing well so far. I have energy for things after work and my life as a whole has gone on an upward spiral.

Depends if you have other things in your life that excite you. It’s ok to be work to live not live to work for a bit as long as you have something to balance it out.

Follow your gut instinct.

It sounds as though you are getting interest from employers so hopefully something exciting will come up soon.

If you're worried about a gap on your CV could you use the time to do something that you'll enjoy and which will also look good on your CV e.g. study, volunteer, raise money for a charity? Then you can tell prospective employers you were doing something productive and important to you whilst waiting for the right job.

Honestly not sure what is the best; of course I have things outside work that excite me and is good to have energy for them and good work life balance; however you do spend most of your time working so it has to be interesting and engaging too.

I personally think any job can be interesting and engaging for a while but over time, that first enthusiasm wanes and everything becomes ‘just a job’
Unless it’s something you’d still do if you win the lottery, looking for that unicorn job is a bit pointless and futile
