If so how has it worked for you . I’m heartily sick of it having spent all day trying to do it . The first time I got everything done and it crashed before the final verification. Then it wouldn’t link to Companies House . Lastly now it’s said it can’t verify my identity despite accepting it twice earlier . So fed up of Government roll outs when the process is not ready to be released .

This is interesting. I have done the GOV.UK One verification and linked to our company. Our accountants have asked for my 11 figure ID code which should apparently appear when I click on ‘Manage Account’. I have tried numerous times but this ID number doesn’t appear. Has everyone else been successful?

I did it about a month ago and failed as i logged out while i did the whole 'take photos in good light' performance - there was nothing warning you not to log out. I'm not near a window so had to leave my office and go and find a clear window.

came back, logged on and couldnt proceed, so had to call the helpline and they walked me through the next step.

some of our foreign Directors/Officers are refusing to do it si we're submitting our completion statement early to avoid the deadline.

It's going to be fun next year when we get fined for non-compliance and the Directors ask why.

I wonder if the problem is too high volume? I started on desktop but then it seemed easier to do it all on mobile. No access problems BUT it just went round in circles between gov.uk app and login. Eventually gave up (after quite some time) and switched to verifying at the Post Office - that worked very well and I quickly had my letter for the P O. I feel aggrieved that I had to waste so much time on something which should have been easy.

I posted earlier I had no problem - I found it really easy and it too minutes to get my code.

I have a number of non exec positions and being asked by the firms for my number. I thought the idea was it would just appear on my app - that has never worked! I constantly get the message Sorry there's a problem. Try again later. I have to dig the code out of my emails.

I had no bother doing this. By which I mean getting the code. How I link my code to my Companies House directorships I have no idea. Couldn't see anything obvious but I have the code for when they start moaning at me.

I had the nightmare job of emailing every director of every company we act as co sec for .. 120 of them, to inform them of this. Some have resigned as they can’t face doing it!

Many have been fine but lots have had problems like those described above and expect us to do it for them, they don’t understand that we can’t!

We are just telling them to go to the Post Office now.

smilingfanatic · 02/11/2025 12:25

Resigned as can't face doing it? Bloody hell @Upwiththisiwillnotput good luck to you dealing with these people - they sound hard work. If you want to be a co director in the UK, expect endless bureaucracy!

Upwiththisiwillnotput · 02/11/2025 12:34

To be fair they are all volunteers and some quite elderly, can understand why they don’t want the hassle.

I did mine this morning no problem. But here's my issue, there's 3 of us that are directors and we all use the same company email address. How's that going to work on an individual basis to confirm identities as obviously I have now used the company email address to verify my identity, surely the other 2 directors now won't be able to use that email address. And as the email address is linked to the business they wouldn't be able to use say a personal email address. I've tried looking for that information but can't find it anywhere. Thanks for any help.

I think you can use personal email addresses, my Trustees don’t have school email addresses, they use Hotmail etc for verifying their ID.

I had to do it as I am a director of the management company for our block of flats. It was a nightmare, I kept going round in circles then eventually it worked and I got the code number. Some of our directors take months to reply to any request, I can't see them bothering to do it to be honest.

Ah ok that makes sense. We'll try their personal email address. Thank you for answering.

My partner went around in circles trying to do it and he was following the online instructions. In the end he got onto companies house chat who cheerfully told him there is a new app to do it now, and he then got it done in a few minutes.

I don’t think any online instructions have been updated to reflect this…

Milbie · 04/11/2025 12:16

Such varying experiences! Mine was painless - under 5 minutes. I did download the wrong app to start with as the right one, weirdly, doesn't have a crown on.

The spooky colours were fun!
