Finding a new job

It’s been 20 years since I last looked for a new role and I’m just looking for any hints here about how to maximise my opportunities.

I went from my first “proper job” to redundancy, then to self employment, and then one of my clients employed me. So job searching hasn’t been on my radar.

I on indeed and total jobs, I’ve sent my cv to a local recruiter focussing on office type work. Is there anything else.

really I’m ready for the next step. I’ve moved into a line management role at work over 2 years ago and want more of it. But I also want more learning and space to grow. I found something I am good at and enjoy and where I am just has no opportunity to progress and won’t support learning. My line manager won’t even mentor and support me to learn more from her. She’s very isolated.

I’m wondering if I need something more specialist if I’m looking to move sideways to move up. In realistic that’s what is likely to have to happen given where I am right now. But I’d like to be moved before I’m in the second half of my forties next year!

It anyone has any tips or can recommend any excellent recruiters in NE England covering County Durham that would be amazing.

LinkedIn (hideous as it is). Networking. Think about moving sideways into a different type of company/ sector where there's more room for growth. Think about your transferrable skills. Is there any CPD you can do on your own? Certifications? Training courses?

It's all quite soul destroying though as the job market sucks at the moment.

I’m getting that vibe @FlappicusSmith I’m happy to look at sideways moves and learn new skills and I’m leaning in contacts. I’m guessing it’s about perseverance.

I think looking at some affordable courses might be good. For my sanity if nothing else.

I’ll keep looking at LinkedIn and posting. As depressing as it is 🤣
