New job = Not the best feeling in office?

Hi,

I recently accepted a job which will boost my career and give me more experience. Im going from hybrid to fully office based.
I went in to hand my contract in (job very local) and they showed me where id be sitting in the office. I was there about half hour but I just didnt get the best vibes. Its so quiet and the team id be working with are sat very close to each other at a few small tables and the whole environment is just so different to what im used to. Im going from public sector to private.

Has anyone not got the best vibes at a new job but it turned out to be ok?

Really not sure what to do.

I’m sure will be fine
they weren’t going to be laughing and chatting with an external person in their small office
and presumably you’re not going to jack it in before you’ve even started so out to back of mind

I understand your reticence but this is a decision only you can make, I'm afraid!

All I can say is that generally I've found my first impressions, work-wise, to be well-founded - but not always. Sometimes you really just need to bed in.

Working in a very small office, i.e, 2-4 people, is hard unless you get brilliantly with them all. If there's more people than that then there will usually be an ally somewhere, but until you find them it can be lonely.

The only time i had a bad vibe i wished I'd have listened to my gut instinct as it turned out to be awful. Funny was talking to a colleague earlier and she had the same feeling first day in a job and that too turned out to be awful.
Your gut instinct is there for a reason

I feel for you. I don't know if it's my ADHD or anxiety but I find it incredibly difficult to work when my team/manager are in very close quarters.

I literally start shaking and stop being able to click on the right things if my boss looks at my screen. I find I can work so much better alone.

I don't mind being remotely monitored/supervised of course as that's part of working. But the idea I'm being looked upon my every move is really disconcerting for me.

It has limited me lot in my work. I make a good receptionist as you get your own nice desk far away from your colleagues.

I hope it turns out bearable for you. X

I've had that before, and my gut instinct was spot on.

I only stayed a few months then resigned...it was stifling.

Ah I worked in an office before exactly like that, quiet and small office all sat close to each other. It ended up being incredibly toxic and we were all micromanaged. I would never do that again. Trust your gut instinct!
