I'm so angry - would my union help?

This is going to be difficult to explain succinctly without being outing but here goes.

An internal review has been undertaken of the way my team leader and her two deputies (of which I am one) carried out our work last year in a particular area. The report is absolutely scathing about the two deputies in particular. But it doesn't point out that neither of the deputies were involved in that area of work last year - that was another deputy who left. The team leader is also new to role this year.

The report compares the work with that performed by another department - apparently they did everything perfectly but my team leadership's work was awful. The report was unfair in quite a few ways. The people who wrote the report are in direct competition with the deputies for promotion, and the people who were interviewed want the deputy jobs themselves.

We had no right of reply and the report has now been shared with the wider leadership. My team leader has our backs at least. But what can I do? Is this something I could raise some sort of grievance about? Could my union help? I'm tempted to go off with stress which I've never done before. I'm so angry!

You might as well ask your union for support and advice.

If nothing else, what on earth else do you pay your union fees for?

yes, this seems grievance worthy!

Thanks, both. I've never raised a grievance before. Is it possible to do so and keep my job? As jobs in my area are scarce and I'm the sole earner for my household.

The report has been shared more widely than those who actually need the information - for example with someone in another department who has nothing to do with the work in question.

I would engage your union rep and get their advice on raising a grievance as this could constitute bullying or harassment.

Have a look at your harassment policy/code of conduct, it may well include unfounded criticism of work as an example...
