DBS in conflict

Dobbie18 · 22/09/2025 15:17

Hi all. I finally managed to speak to someone at DBS who told me what the hold up is with my application (kind of) so they have now said my application is “in conflict”. Anyone ever had this happen? I know I don’t have a criminal record of any sort. I’ve previously had DBS checks done before, and never had this. My new employer ran an adults first check which came back clear. DBS advisor couldn’t tell me what the conflict is so I was just curious if anyone had this before and what it could possibly be. Thank you

Just to add, I have signed up for the update service to avoid these long waits in the future

It will be a missing address or similar

Comefromaway · 22/09/2025 15:21

It means there are discrepancies between the personal information you filled in and what is on file. Have you got any other names etc you were known by that you havn't put down or any other details that might be incorrect.

It was my new employer that submitted it all so I’m hoping they done it correct. I told her I’m married now so previously had maiden name. I’m sure she said because it was over 5 years ago it wouldn’t matter

so they completed it on your behalf?

they’d have needed a lot of information to do that

Wait!! There is a question that asks have you ever had a different name!!

and that includes your maiden name

AnonymousCatLady3 · 22/09/2025 15:25

You have to include maiden names iirc, pretty sure I had to and I’ve been married nearly 30 years.

Comefromaway · 22/09/2025 15:26

They submitted it? That does not seem right. How did they know all your details, your previous 5 year address history, maiden name (if applicable) and any other names you may have been known by. How could they sign the legal declaration on your behalf? I know it can be signed digitally but it it you saying that the info is true and correct.

Hoppinggreen · 22/09/2025 15:26

I have beeen married for 25 years and I still give my maiden name on any form that asks for it

Comefromaway · 22/09/2025 15:26

I was married 25 years ago and had to give my maiden name.

Yeah you can’t do an enhanced one yourself. I gave her all my information etc as had to take passport and stuff in for ID. I said yes to previous name so I’m sure she would have put it down

I sit with our employees whilst they fill in the form on the computer. I have even been known (at their request) to type all the information in for them, but never would I EVER fill in the form without them and without making them check every section is accurate. This is totally wrong.

No op

that is wrong.

the application for an enhanced is exactly the same as standard BUT what then happens is what differentiates the two

op…. This is odd and the delay will continue. It will will at least about the maiden name omission

it is still you who has to fill it in though. The employer submits it, but you fill in the form.

Exactly

the process and form is identical

how happens in the processing is what differentiates the two

Comefromaway · 22/09/2025 15:31

To expand on that. You fill in the form online. You digitally sign the declaration. You then take in your documentation and the employer checks it and fills in a different online form. They then submit the application. They should not be filling in the form on your behalf.

Precisely, it is literally a check box you tick Standard or Enhanced and as you say whichever you tick determines the process.

They can do it on behalf of the applicant
BUT

they have to clarify that (there’s a specific question enquiring)

and they have to have so much information about you to hand! So I have only done it for aged volunteers who don’t like tech, and they’ve sat beside me

Clearly this is our bag @Comefromaway !

Many of our plumbers don't like tech either, but as you say, they are sitting next to me whilst I read the questions out and type their answers.

KurtCobainLover · 22/09/2025 15:52

That sounds really odd. I process DBS checks for the charity I work out and as others have said it same process for standard and enhanced - they fill out the form (or I do whilst they are sitting next to me) and once that’s been submitted I fill in the ID section and say if it’s standard or enhanced. You also have to declare your maiden name and when you used it until.

Fruitlips · 22/09/2025 15:54

Op… the person who has submitted your DBS has f*ed up.

Added to which, they’ve actually completely gone against guidelines. Be wary!

RainbowBrighite · 22/09/2025 18:54

To back up all the others… I’ve probably done at least ten enhanced dbs checks and I’ve never had one submitted like this!

Op run a mile. For an organisation which needs its staff to do an enhanced DBS to get this so so wrong is an enormous red flag.

You fill in your own information. There's no way on earth they'll get everything right first time round and now you're stuck in an unemployed limbo because of their mistakes.

Of COURSE you need to supply ALL your previous names. And addresses going back YEARS.

Absolutely ridiculous that their safeguarding team have cocked this up so badly.
