Review of Fixed Term Contract meeting possibly disciplinary

Hi, I had an email on Wednesday from my manager saying that they are looking to review my fixed term contract which ends originally in February. I’ve got a meeting on teams with HR and the manager to review my contract because they said that there are safety concerns with my work and mistakes have been made. They also keep sending me back into the office and I’ve been given support by two ladies but I feel like they’ve been nit picking on silly things and if I do something wrong they tell me and then report it back to the manager so they’re building a case against me. The manager is also aware that I have an underactive thyroid which causes brain fog and concentration issues. They know that I have just been put on medication for this. I was referred to the occupational health at work and the report states that the manager should be checking in with me regularly and offering positive feedback but she hasn’t everything has been negative. The meeting isn’t scheduled in until the end of the month because she’s on holiday and now I’ve got wait which is making my anxiety worse and I’m not sleeping well either. I was thinking about handing my notice in before the meeting or should I wait. I’ve been trying so hard and I feel like I’m doing better but obviously not. Thanks for reading.

How long have you worked there?
Not sure how it works if you’re on a fixed contract but it sounds like you might have a case for constructive dismissal as your manager isn’t following the OH guidelines.

What are the mistakes? If they have a safety impact it is unlikely they can give you the benefit due to your health issues. When did the contract begin? Are there other roles you could move to where your needs can be more easily accommodated?

My contract ends in February as it’s temporary. I’ve been there for just over 7 months.

It says welfare and work related concerns leading to safety critical work errors. I don’t want to stay there to be honest.

I think it depends on the nature of your job particularly from the safety aspect.

I have someone in a similar situation on my team currently. Long term health issues which are affecting his performance but the nature of the job means that if/when he makes an error, it has the potential for harm and in a worst case scenario, could result in the loss of life so i am absolutely reviewing his work, reporting back positives but also every poor decision to him (in a constructive way with support) and if his performance doesnt improve, he will have to leave or move into a different role to mitigate risk. A very different scenario to a cleaner forgetting to put out wet floor signs or a chef leaving the oven on.

If you don’t want to stay there anyway talk to HR about resigning and try and agree a reference.

Ignore the constructive dismissal advice from PP it’s completely incorrect.

Depends on what the critical safety mistakes are.

I tried to get someone sent home last week as unfit to work. Didn't manage to get it through the right people on time, and that resulted in a fire that took 3 of us to put out.
If it's that sort if mistake, they have a point.

If it's highlighting Excell cells in the wrong colour, it's a bit different...

What advice are you after - how to improve, whether to resign or stay till you’re pushed, or what to do afterwards?

Ignore anyone suggesting things like constructive dismissal, it’s completely irrelevant.
