First trimester nauseous so bad- how to hide it all in my new job?

This is my second pregnancy, but the nausea and tiredness this time round is kicking my butt. How did you cope at work between weeks 6 and 12 of pregnancy? I just don’t feel myself at all. I feel sick from morning till night time and I want to take a nap in the middle of the day, but we are return to office three days a week. I am nibbling salty snacks all day long and not eating meals. Surely they will suspect? It’s a small close-knit office and I only joined six months ago.

I also feel like I can’t play with my toddler. I avoid being around him in the middle of the day as he so much energy and my brain just feels fried. I feel really upset about that too, like I’m a bad mum.

Working Mums, how did you cope or conceal your nausea at work?

I was so sick that I couldn’t hide it. I just told my boss and closest working colleagues.

6-18 weeks I was off sick in both pg. Do they know you are pregnant? By law, they must record pregnancy related sickness separately and can not use it in disciplinary action against you. Once they know, they need to do a risk assessment for you. Continuing to wfh could be considered as an adjustment for you.

I haven’t told them and I don’t want to yet - i’ve only been in the job six months. Plus I’m only 8 weeks so anything could happen. I’ve never worked in such a small company before so I guess I’m a bit nervous about how the founders are going to react full-stop. I lead a team of three and I don’t think they founders will let me work from home. Unless of course it was sickness related? They are not very au fait with the legal aspect of a flexible working….

I know, I know…
I already have a previous FWR denied because

  1. “you have to have been in the job a year” = incorrect

  2. “ yes other people do four days but we expect leadership to be five days” = not a legit reason
