Hybrid to fully office what shall I do?

Hi

Ive been offered a good career move job which is 2 minutes drive from where I live which is great.

However the role is fully office based with no option for home working. I currently work 80% at home with 1 office day per week which i love, although the job is not great but its ok.

Not sure what to do as I love wfh. I suffer from chronic insomnia so wfh also suits.

Any thoughts?

If the office is only a couple of minutes drive, what difference realistically will the transition be? I went from hybrid to five days a week in an office local to me and I would never, ever go back to home working again! The proper separation between home and work has been very good for me, but without the 1.5 hr commute I have to do to our main office. I’d bite their hand off!

A two min commute is nothing
i much prefer being in the office and for that sort of commute I’d bite their hands off

If s two minute drive, better to walk or cycle and definitely take the job.

Great career move + 2 min commute to office sounds good to me (I also WFH mainly but my commute is more like 35-45 mins). I'd definitely consider cycling as PP says.

Good career move will put you in a better position long-term.

Have you always had insomnia? Working outside the home could improve your sleep.

RaininSummer · 13/09/2025 16:29

Two mins is nothing so surely won't impact your insomnia any more than the current set up. Also if walk to work is possible it may help you sleep a bit better.

The wfh could be contributing to your insomnia as you are not having a break between work and home ( mine was always worse when I wfh and improved when I was in the office ). Personally I would take the role - a 2 minute commute is nothing , it’s a better role so longer term prospects are improved, and will give proper separation between work and home. You will also find yourself being more active being in an office than sat at a desk at home which will also help with the insomnia.

Take it. It’s only two mins away. So what fifteen minutes walk on a good weather day? The walk will do you good.

No brainer - office job.

Why would wfh suit your chronic insomnia?

Take the job, and walk rather than drive. The outdoor daylight and exercise will help your insomnia.
