Anyone know where I stand with this?

Currently in a job role I love and my performance is good, management are happy with my work, my targets are all on track, I've brought money in to the organisation and I genuinely like all my team and we get on really well.

However I joined the company on a secondment cover, so my contract says a secondment to cover 2 years with possibility of extension ( at interview i was told it may be extended to 4 years depending on the other persons contract being extended). I'm not even a full year in yet and I've just been told that things aren't going well for the other person I'm covering and they may have to recall them from the external place they've been seconded to which would mean I will be out of a job. They've said they've no idea what way it will go but that I should start looking for other positions now so I'm not left stuck and they wanted to give me as much notice as possible.

Where does this leave me and do I have any entitlements? Obviously I'll look elsewhere now and I've zero interest in creating any aggro with my current workplace as i really like everyone and want to keep a door open but equally I'm a lone parent with bills to pay on one income so I just want a full picture of my options.

within your first two years you don’t have the same employment rights. As long as they give you notice and aren’t being unfair or discriminatory they can let you go.

Secondmentconfusion · 10/09/2025 15:51

Is there a redundancy pay in that scenario or just a month's notice?

That would be up to your employer, but you have no entitlement to redundancy pay just your notice. They do have to follow the process and may not go through the redundancy process and instead just terminate your contract with your contractual notice.

Ok thanks for clarifying I appreciate it

Why have you brought money into the organisation and will you get that back?

IDontHateRainbows · 10/09/2025 19:26

No. You have bugger all rights and to be fair you took this job knowing it was a cover.

But you'd have the same rights ie zero even if it wasn't.

Id get looking elsewhere.

Presumably OPs job is to generate income.

Of course she won't get it back its not her money.

Yeah it's money from grants or investment I've found and applied for to increase the budget my team were having to work within. Not my money in any way, just mentioned it to evidence that there's not a performance issue as this has been beneficial for the company to increase their capacity.

Thanks all, I didn't expect there to be anything I'd be entitled to and yes it was always a temporary post, I just wanted to check incase anyone knew different. Will be applying for whatever else I can. Just gutted as I was really enjoying it.
