Same company, new role with new probation period

I have worked at this company for 6 years in the same role. This role will no longer exist so I am being offered 2 other similar roles or redundancy. If I take one of the other roles, I will start a new 3 month probation period.
my first reaction was that this is a cheap way to get rid of me as its unlikely I would take redundancy in the current job market.
however, I have done some research which tells me that my total length of service would have to be considered and I couldn’t just be dismissed if I didn’t pass the new probation - it would have to go to performance management.
I’m quite confident I could do one of the roles with my eyes closed so I suppose I am just looking for a bit of reassurance. Has anyone been through anything similar and not lost their job at the end of the new probation period?

I would get the rules checked so you are 100% sure that your total length of service is taken into account if you ‘fail’ probation abd that you’ll basically end up with the same terms as a redundancy

No need to check the rules. That is the law. She will have worked continuously for the same employer for over 6 years. She is therefore protected against unfair dismissal. Unlike a probation period at the start of employment, her employer will need to show that they have followed a proper, fair process if they dismiss her.

Thanks @bumbaloo I was hoping this was the case. Surely if they were going to do that, they would do it in my current role so I feel like it will be ok. It is just the uncertainty.

The first four weeks in the new role is regarded as a trial period. If you aren't happy, you can decline the role at the end of that period and take your redundancy pay.
