To Call or Not To Call ?

TL;DR-
Emailed a potential job twice (original one to enquire and do term time only, the second email was to take back the term time only so that I’d be more likely to get the job). Also applied on indeed, been a month and heard nothing. Partner wants me to call Wednesday. I think I’ll look desperate, he thinks I’ll look eager.

More detailed version-
I’m on maternity leave and due off in January. My current employment is 45 minutes away so I want somewhere more local rather than commute. I have a son starting reception, so I found a job advert of a nursery I really want, but due to me not being able to start till January, I emailed them to enquire and stated term time only. I then realised beggars can’t be choosers and so I emailed them a second time following up my first email informing them I could work all year round if better. I then decided to apply on indeed, after putting it in my CV about a Jan start, and I saw on the company’s actual website for a job ad that said start “January 2016”. I assumed the 2016 was a typo, as the copyright logo at the bottom of the website said 2022 (assuming the website was created in 2022, making 2016 a typo and they meant 2026). It’s been a month, and we haven’t heard back yet, but my partner wants me to give them a call on Wednesday, to enquire further, ask if they received my application, ask about the website if it’s a typo or whatnot. I said I don’t want to call as I don’t want to look needy or desperate, but he thinks I will look eager to work there which is a good thing. I need your honest opinions, pls don’t be harsh to me I have no idea how to navigate this. Finding a job has never been stressful for me and I’ve had many successes, but being on maternity trying to secure a job for the end of my maternity, with enough time to hand my notice in etc is proving stressful.

I’d leave it tbh. You’ve made it clear you’re keen and flexible. The typo thing is neither here nor there. It could be a typo, or a reused ad from 10 years ago. Either way you’ll either get an interview or you won’t. Job hunting is a slog, this may not be the one, so keep looking, keep applying and keep your mind and options open. Good luck.

I really dislike it when applicants start to pester. It comes across as needy.
I also dislike it when interviewees chase feedback persistently. I have my main job to do, I don’t have time for people who have not been employed and their admin.

@SnowflakeSmasher86@beelegali don’t know if this makes any difference, I was on your sides more as it was my partner wanting me to call. However, there are three of these nurseries in my area, like a branch of them, on different roads. The email address is nurseryname+roadname, well i’ve discovered the nursery I emailed was not actually the nursery i was applying for, so my emails i think are moot at this point. Of course, I have applied via indeed, but my emails don’t count anymore so now I’m unsure if I should give it another go? email the correct nursery or call? Thanks for helping me out ☺️ (I’ve also just realised I received a call from the nursery I did email a week or so ago, who explained they aren’t hiring but want to keep me on the books. i said that was okay to do so and explained im actually trying to apply for the other one) but it has now just clicked as to why that other nursery randomly called me 😭🤣

@beelegalbut a standard ‘thank you for your application but we have decided on another candidate’ is the bare minimum? So many people never hear back - if you sent those out then no one would pester you!

This 100%, so many places don’t email back about not being successful but I think it needs to be done. You never know if they’ve seen the application, seen the email, these things can get lost and it’s a nice peace of mind just knowing.
