Dream job but funding may end....

I have been offered my absolute dream job, everything about it is exactly what I am looking for, (scope of work, location etc) but there is a chance the funding for the role may not be extended beyond the next financial year. Would you take it knowing it may end prematurely due to possible funding cuts? At the moment there are a number of other opportunities in my profession if it doesn't work out. I am wanting to take it but some friends have been sceptical that it is a sensible move. DP is on board.

Would it enhance your experience to get a similar role elsewhere?

Can you afford to be out of work for a while if it doesn’t work out?

Possibly, definitely worth a consideration, I will have another look to see if there is something similar. It feels like a risk but if it turns permanent then it is ideal.

Realistically no but I would have warning if it wasn't going to extend and there are lots of temp or ad hoc work in my profession that would tide me over if needed.

I would go for it. You’ll enjoy it for at least a few months and it will give you the perfect experience for similar roles in the future. Also, it sounds like you might be charitable sector or maybe academia. If so, there are probably very few jobs which don’t have some degree of funding risk at the moment!

take it, but keep looking for other jobs whilst you're there. It gives you a safety net whilst the job market improves.

It is charitable sector and you are right, funding risks goes with the role typically so it doesn't worry me too much because it is almost to be expected. This specific type of role doesn't come up that often so it feels too good to miss, even if it ends up being short lived (hopefully not though).

Great idea! Will do that, makes good sense.
