Freelance day rate

If you were earning 55k in house, how much would you want as a day rate to go freelance? I'm a copywriter/content specialist if that helps.

I would expect £200-£250 for a content specialist. A bit more for a copywriter who does good old school ad copy.

If you were earning 55k salaried you were on nearly £240 a day with even statutory minimum annual leave, given you also have security, possible sick pay, pension, no additional work sourcing clients, invoicing, non-payment, insurance, own resources - space, ICT/software etc etc I’d say you’d need significantly more if you wanted to match a salaried position of 55k.

I agree! Just curious as to what actual figure people would suggest.

If I was freelance I'd save a couple of hundred on commuting to London, plus the flexibility of being able to work around school runs etc. That's the main driver for me.

I've got one client who I could hopefully get on retainer for at least a couple of days a week.

£400? Higher?

How many chargeable hours will you get in a year. Probably no more than 1000. So 55 per hour or 400 per day

Very late seeing this but I charge £400 - same job as you. Depends on where you are a little. I’ve had a few very busy years so it’s been lucrative but sense this year may be a little slower but still happy with £400
